Need a cheap and cheerful breakfast? Al's has you covered.
This small diner is right on Bermondsey street and serves up breakfast and lunch favorites until mid afternoon. The interior is simple - maybe 8 or 10 tables, but very clean!
You can choose from traditional breakfasts or build your own adventure. I had scrambled eggs on toast with sausages and it filled me right up for around £5. The boys had full English breakfasts which are served with enough toast (nice, thick cut bread too) to feed a small army.
Nice staff, tasty good, really cheap prices! (And probably really good for when you have a hangover!) -

Hearty food, good prices, and quick service! Not the fanciest meal in town, but this will fill you up indeed for a day of travel and exploring. I really enjoyed my bacon & egg breakfast toastie, and the addition of cheese was totally worth it. (It's LEGIT cheese - thick and flavorful.) My dining partners enjoyed their full breakfasts, as well...I snuck a bit of their hash-browns and they were crispy and delish. When we visited, we were pleased with how spotless the interior was despite a likely very busy morning. They take good care of this place and it shows in both the food & appearance. Recommend!

My first day in London I was looking for some breakfast. I stopped in and ordered. I wasnt familiar with British currency yet so I asked assistance. I gave the guy a 20, and he gave me my change. It didnt seem right so I asked another patron. He shorted me 10 pounds. When I confronted him, he was quick to say "oh sorry" and reached quickly into his pocket and gave me my ten. Note I said his pocket, not a register. This shortish, nearly bald guy maybe in his late 20s preys on tourists. Beware. Btw, the food wasnt all that good either.

I just wanted something simple and basic here and Al's Cafe didn't disappoint.
It's a typical old-school greasy spoon cafe with all the usual items you'd expect on the menu.
I had a pie with chips and beans. They were all good and satisfied my hunger well, with a portion of chips and beans I was unable to finish.
The staff greeted me with a smile and the atmosphere inside was pleasant, without the smell of frying oil vapour you might find in other places like this.
Oh and there's this masterpiece 3D mural of Tower Bridge on the wall. It's worth coming here just for that!

Sparkling clean, fast, friendly, cheap and hearty food in the middle of Bermondsey Street -- nice mix of customers.
Full English was as tasty as anywhere and tea was served at perfect temperature for drinking, not setting my mouth on fire.
Good place.
